A hunters who booked on Qatar Airlines arrived at the check-in counter in Philadelphia and was informed that there were no details on his ticket or reference of his rifle he was bringing on safari. After much confusion and rearranging a great deal was learnt from the situation. I hope the below can assist you to avoid any delays on clients getting in.

To reiterate – Qatar Airways does permit the carriage of sporting weapon/s and ammunition, but the details of your clients specific sporting weapon/s and ammunition have to be noted with his/her ticket. If booked online via their website email pfcdoh@qatarairways.com.qa  and give them the following paperwork as specified just below. If booked with a travel agent the details can be entered into the remarks section of the ticket and Qatar will revert with confirmation code in the ticket. The Customer Service desk in Doha can be reached on +974 4420 3015 if your clients have any issues or don’t receive a response.

Your clients need to send Qatar the following:
Customs 4457
Letter of Invitation
Copy of Passport
Your existing booked Itinerary and Reference Number

Once they have done this then they need to receive acknowledgement back from Qatar confirming all stations have been advised of the sporting weapon/s and ammunition with his/her ticket. They must PRINT that confirmation and be sure to have it available at time of checking in.

Lastly, on one instance they requested a copy of the clients hunting license to prove he is going on a hunt. Be sure to reach out to your clients early to avoid the scenario we’ve sat with.

The clients cannot treat Qatar and the travel with weapons like they would Delta or similar. They cannot just pitch with gun and paperwork at the check in counter.
